Himlavalvet

Entropic’s winning competition entry for Ängelholm redefines the urban bridge. More than infrastructure, Himlavalvet is a place to meet, play, and overlook the city and river. Its form references the historic Pyttebron railway bridge while shaping a new civic landmark for locals and visitors alike.

Description:

The bridge combines mobility with recreation. Its singular structural arch is iconic yet minimal, offering a walkable spine that connects users to the surrounding sky and landscape. It creates generous clearance for boats below while giving pedestrians a playful and memorable spatial experience above.

Materiality anchors the design in continuity and sustainability. Corten steel evokes the beloved local bridge, while timber decking provides warmth and tactility. Subtle lighting highlights the arch and cables without disturbing wildlife, ensuring safety while enhancing identity. Himlavalvet is both infrastructural solution and poetic gesture.
