NEST: Urban Biodiversity at Expo Osaka 2025

ENTROPIC’s NEST façade system is selected for the New European Bauhaus digital exhibition at the EU Pavilion, bringing urban biodiversity to Expo Osaka 2025.

What if a building’s unused vertical surfaces could become places for nature to inhabit? NEST explores that question through a modular façade system designed to make room for biodiversity within the city.

In April 2025, ENTROPIC announced NEST’s selection for the New European Bauhaus digital exhibition at the EU Pavilion at Expo Osaka 2025. The selection brought a proposal for shared urban habitats into an international discussion about sustainable, beautiful and inclusive environments.

The system reconsiders the façade as an interface between architecture and ecology. Ceramic and clay panels offer different microhabitats, including nesting cavities, pollinator niches and pockets for vegetation. Their modular configuration is intended to support adaptation to new and existing buildings, turning overlooked surfaces into opportunities for other forms of life.

NEST’s ambition is not simply to place greenery beside architecture. It asks how buildings themselves can participate in a living urban environment, and how ecological thinking can become part of the everyday fabric of the city.

We thank the European Institute of Innovation and Technology and the EIT Community New European Bauhaus for supporting the development of this vision. The selection opens a wider conversation about architecture as a shared habitat.
