ENTROPIC and Degree of Freedom have won Ängelholm's competition for a new bridge over Rönne å with Himlavalvet. Announced on 16 December 2021, the result follows a two-stage process with 44 initial entries and four teams invited to develop their proposals for the final stage.
The design joins a necessary crossing with a new way to experience the city. A diagonal arch carries the structure and becomes a stepped public route above the river, inviting people to climb, pause and look across the surrounding landscape. The bridge offers the directness of everyday movement at deck level and a slower, exploratory journey above it.
The jury recognised the combination of a modern arch structure and an inventive public function. It highlighted how the diagonal geometry connects city and park while creating space for people on the arch itself, giving the crossing the potential to become both a landmark and a destination.
Weathering steel and timber connect the proposal to Ängelholm's bridge heritage, including Pyttebron, while the new silhouette establishes its own civic identity. The collaboration between ENTROPIC and Degree of Freedom brings architecture and engineering into the same design process. Himlavalvet expresses an ambition central to our work: infrastructure that not only resolves a connection, but expands what that connection can offer to public life.
