ENTROPIC and studio4SPACE's The Nature Gate has won the Jury Award for Unbuilt Sustainable Non-Residential Project at the 2025 Architizer A+Awards. The library and kindergarten proposal in Józefów, near Warsaw, brings civic architecture and ecological thinking into a single spatial idea: a gateway through which the town meets its pine forest.
Two volumes respond to different forms of learning. The library addresses Asnyka Street and public life; the kindergarten sits deeper within the woodland, with classrooms orientated towards the trees. Their connection is more than a passage. Shared facilities and a common arrival turn the meeting of programmes into a place for children, families and the wider community.
Play moves onto the roof, opening an additional landscape without occupying the same area of forest floor. Timber, compact planning and the relationship between building and existing trees are conceived together, making environmental ambition visible in the organisation of everyday experience rather than treating it as a separate technical layer.
For ENTROPIC, the award brings an architectural proposition into focus: a public building can make room for nature while expanding the ways people learn, gather and belong. The Nature Gate gives that ambition a legible form, joining the practical requirements of a library and kindergarten with the generosity of a shared civic threshold.
